·         Student Assignment Plan (SAP), brief update: One year transition period for grandfathering, ramifications for “option” schools unclear.  FAQ to be placed Seattle Schools web site.

·         Governor’s proposed budget makes severe cuts, eventual budget likely to be very different, will be several months before “realistic” budget known.

·         School tour planning, impact of the SAP and transportation changes unknown.  Will need parent volunteers again as in past years, very important for potential parents to be able to talk with current parents.

·         Thanks to parents for their support generally and for the Fair Trade Fair and the University Bookstore event.

·         Winter Enrichment Program kick off event in November was successful.  Will need volunteers to help with loading/morning and unloading/evening logistics e.g. traffic control.

Rosemary D brought up the Seattle Schools levy on 2/10/2010 and mentioned possibility of FOSB contributing money to “Schools first” which is a group that organizes support for the Levy.

  • Discussion ensued
  • Motion for FOSB to contribute $300 to Schools First to support advocacy for the Levy
    • Motion passed

Lance raised the issue regarding the tardy submission of receipts for reimbursement by a teacher for enrichment funds.

  • Discussion ensued
  • Motion to reimburse this teacher (not named) for 2008-2009 expenses that are documented with receipts
    • Motion passed
  • Motion to approve prior reimbursement of teacher for expenses prior to the 2008-2009 school year that were documented with receipts
    • Motion passed

Jane raised the issue that enrichment fees do not “rollover” from one school year to the next for individual teachers.  However, a teacher was mistakenly told that they did roll over and planned accordingly to use “rollover” funds from the 2008-2009 school year for the 2009-2010 school year.

  • Motion- FOSB will cover up to $800 if enrichment fees come up short for this teacher because of the circumstances described above.
    • Motion passed.

Discussion of the need for written policies, including due dates printed on reimbursement forms and a suggested meeting with FOSB representatives and teachers to review financial matters related to FOSB and the use of enrichment fees. General agreement.

Rosemary D. proposed a possible January agenda item to discuss middle school classroom support, e.g. books for classrooms

Anna M suggested a middle school fundraiser - a spelling bee for parents to be called “Let it Bee”.  General support expressed. Location, date and fundraising goal to be determined.
