Alternative Education Survey Results To Be Presented To School Board

The Alternative Survey that was offered, taken and compiled here at Salmon Bay will be making a showing at the next School District Board meeting. John Miner, principal of Thornton Creek, will be presenting the results of the Alternative Schools Self-Study (created by SB parent Caleb Banta Green) to the board at the regular meeting June 15, 6pm at the Stanford Center. A show of community support would speak volumes! Remember, if you can't make any meetings or forums, you can always watch school board meetings from the comfort of your own home on tv or computer: Info here

2011-2012, 2012-2013 Academic Calendars Approved; Changes to Mid-Winter Break for 2012-2013

The School Board has approved 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 academic calendars. Mid-winder break will be shortened in 2012-2012.

The main change to the calendar is that in 2012-13, mid-winter break will be reduced from a full Monday-Friday week to four days over Presidents Day weekend – including the Friday before the weekend and the Monday of Presidents Day, which is already a holiday and a non-school day.

As a result of the shorter mid-winter break, the last day of school in 2012-13 will be June 14, assuming no snow make-up days.

Budget Cuts May Result in Shorter School Year

An alert from the WA State PTA warns that a possible $250 million cut to teacher pay could result in the loss of one school week due to teacher furloughs. Some legislators are currently working on bills to prevent this from happening. It is important that we support them.
