Garden Committee News and Notes
Hello Everyone!
I am writing to give you updated information on the Butterfly Garden. I am excited to say that Gretchen DeDecker, our district Gardener, came out to Salmon Bay around the end of January and met with me to go over the entire school grounds, giving me the history of the Salmon Bay gardens and also, came to look at the proposed Butterfly garden spot. After looking at the plans she approved it and asked about the possibility of having the garden over in the top front, S.W. side of the school along the cement bench, with adequate space between the bench and the garden, so kiddos can sit there and observe or listen to a lesson. So Dave’s class will be working each Friday in March to help prepare this area for the New Butterfly Garden. Any persons interested in joining us can show up at 11 am.
Now… about the Spring Work Parties. They will take place on the second Saturdays of March, April and May (March 13, April 10, and May 8th) from 10am to 1 pm. Coffee, juice and bagels will be served and we will invite the School District to bring tools. Most work parties involve weeding, trimming and planting so bring your gardening clothes. We also hope to have a Garden Committee General meeting end of May/beginning of June. We’ll keep you posted.
