Attention Parents! Auction Donations Wanted!

2011:  A Space Oddity

Salmon Bay School Auction

March 26, 2011

DONATIONS DUE:  February 18th, 2011

DID YOU KNOW:  over 80% of the income from the auction comes from the sale of donations from Salmon Bay Families?

DID YOU KNOW:  over 65% of FOSB’s general fund comes from the Auction?

DID YOU KNOW:  classroom, art and specialist supply funds had to be cut by 50% last year because of low fundraising?

DID YOU KNOW:  this year FOSB is funding the art supplies, the classroom supplies, the volunteer coordinators, elementary and middle school music teachers, 50% of the librarian salary AND MORE!  These things WON’T HAPPEN without your auction donations!

Put those numbers together and you’ll see that YOU have the POWER to provide YOUR STUDENT with the supplies and programs that make Salmon Bay School an AWESOME place for your family and our community!

ALL donations make a difference.  Here are some donations from the past to get you thinking:

-        Condo or cabin getaways (mountains, Sound, tropical paradise)

-        Theme dinners (Italian, Moroccan, Seafood)

-        Group events (climbing, biking, crafting, socializing)

-        Sports and Theater Tickets

-        Salmon Bay parent artistic creations

-        Donations YOU get from your favorite restaurant or shop

-        New items you own but haven’t used

-        And more….babysitting, flowers of the month, yard work, special desserts

BE CREATIVE!  You’d be surprised what you have to offer or who you know that has something great to donate.

AND DON’T PROCRASTINATE:  put it on your “TO-DO” list TODAY!

A donation form is attached and more are available in the school lobby or on the school website, www.salmonbayschool.org.

Get your donation form in by Friday, February 18th

and be entered in a drawing for FREE ADMISSION for two for the Auction!

Auction volunteer position available - we need YOU asap!

Donations are coming in, and we would love to have a volunteer who is managing our auction sponsorhips!

Here is how Lynne has described the job:

Receive info from the auction chair Edith Fuchs, parent volunteer coordinator Megan Ratcliffe, database folks (Jody Fuentes and Pam Elend), or procurement folks (Julie Nachtwey, Lynne Miller) about a promised sponsorship. We'll find out about a sponsorship if someone returns the procurement form with that box checked, or if a procurer receives a promise of a sponsorship. These are typically straight cash donations of $100 or $250.

Contact the sponsor by phone (preferably) or email, to
- thank them
- tell them that they'll receive an auction invitation in the mail
- ask whether they would like to provide artwork for the auction catalog
- write them a thank you note.

Subsequently, follow up to make sure they're added to the invite list (you may want to simply hand address the invitation with a note saying their tickets will be available at the door).

Followup to make sure we have the artwork available, and that the auction program designer has that info two weeks before the auction, and that all the sponsors are included in the program.

Organizing a sponsorship banner.

Sometimes, we receive a substantial in-kind donation, not something that we'll auction off, that will qualify for a sponsorship. For example, the Budget Sewer has donated all the wine for the auction in the past, and we've acknowledged them as sponsors. Maybe the lighting/sound folks should also be acknowledged.

I'd love to hear from you! - Edith
