Principal's Note
Dear Salmon Bay Families
You’ve noticed it’s darker, and colder, and hopefully your students are engaged and being challenged, as well as showing those amazing spurts of growth and learning. The holidays are peeking around the corner and that means……it’s CONFERENCE TIME!!
By now you have signed up for a time slot with your student’s teacher. The official conference days are Nov. 22, 23, 24. Some teachers will be starting a little bit earlier at the end of this week, and on the week end. REMEMBER: THERE ARE NO CLASSES FOR STUDENTS NEXT WEEK.
Many of our conferences are “student led” conferences. This means your student will be present during the conference and review their work and accomplishments, as well as their areas for growth, with you themselves. They may do this by showing you some of their work, portfolios or notebooks. Teachers will also be involved, of course, in helping to round out that picture of how your child is progressing. Having students lead and participate in their conference is part of our work to empower students to be independent learners, and to “own” their education as well as help direct it, even though this happens in very developmentally different ways. We look forward to the experience.
Also a reminder: if your family plans to take a planned absence some time this year, you are required to fill out the planned absence form, which you can find on the website, in the “forms” section, in order for us to know that this is an excused absence.
In anticipation of a great holiday season, and a cozy winter (full of good reading for everyone), we look forward to kicking it off with you on SATURDAY at the PANCAKE BREAKFAST and FAIR TRADE FAIR FUNDRAISER. Please be sure to join us at 9:00 am till 12:00 for breakfast, with the fair continuing until 2:00 pm.
See you there! Enjoy your week, and take care.
Jodee
