Principal's Note
Dear Salmon Bay Families:
Thank you in advance for all the lovely things you do for teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week. Actually, everyone who works at Salmon Bay knows we are blessed with such a supportive, communicative, and caring parent community—every week of the year. But I can tell you how much it means to teachers to have this one special week…especially as the spring countdown is adding up.
If you haven’t penciled it in to your calendars yet, don’t miss “The Wizard of Oz” performance this Friday at 7, and Saturday at 2. It is an amazing example of a K-8 effort, and represents all our diversity and joy of seeing students sing, act and dance!
Our Reading Buddies Program is alive and well, in case you were worried. Our 4th grade students were presented with a real dilemma, as if the program was discontinued, in order to stir an authentic persuasive essay draft. Then, told that the program was fine, but this is an example of how important it can be some day to write persuasively. (6th graders also were told some of their favorite books were going to be banned earlier in the year, to produce the same “authentic” draft for their persuasive essays.) Don’t be alarmed, but DO read and respond to those essays with your students!
And have a good week!
Jodee
