Hello families! Hope you all had a lovely weekendJ
What we worked on last week(information in the narrow boxes is repeated on a weekly basis)
Butterfly Garden
Thanks to Jen Millen for getting us involved in creating a butterfly garden. On Friday we went out to pull weeds, churn up the soil, fill compost bags, find worms, centipedes and other bugs, and enjoy the beautiful weather. Thanks to Steve and Finn McGehee for helping out as well.
Writers Workshop
We continued our realistic fiction unit of study and the kids learned how to better develop their character by thinking about character traits similar to their own, as well as writing about things they know a lot about.
Word Study
We completed our end of unit assessment and will start a new unit next week.
Please remind your child that should they have any, that they need to practice all their “words to learn” each week at home by pointing and saying the letters of the word, then writing each word at least 4 times each. |
2nd graders practiced ballpark estimates, base-10 blocks addition, adding multiples of 10, strategies for adding 2-digit numbers, partial-sums addition, finding sums for two multi-digit numbers, +/- fact triangles, and practiced telling time.
Please be sure to have your child continue practicing their fact triangles at home 2-4 times per week. In addition, please remember to have your 2nd grader play the EveryDay Math Online games we’ve learned so far this year for extra practice. |
Snack
Thank you to Martha’s family for snack last week and for the week ahead.
Mark your calendars:
Thursday, March 11th – Field Trip to Seattle Children’s Theater performance of “Getting Near Baby”.
Friday, March 19th – No School
Monday – Fri, March 29th through April 2nd – Spring Break!!
Thank you!
I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week, and see you soon!
Sincerely,
Dave
