PRINCIPAL’S NOTE
Dear Salmon Bay Families:
Lot’s of actual K-8 ACTIVITY! – By that I mean, sometimes we forget the unique experience students have at Salmon Bay by being together in such a grade range under one roof.
If you wander the halls in the next few weeks, you’ll notice all sorts of preparations and rehearsal for The Wizard of Oz. We have elementary students rehearsing songs to be “The Munchkins” and our middle school working on tech, on learning lines, and learning music. Look for the dates on the website, during the first two weeks in May.
Reading Buddies are everywhere, we have middle school parents buddying up with elementary students, and elementary parents reading with middle school students, and we have middle school students, even whole classes, pairing up with elementary classes, and even some seventh graders doing their research project to write a non-fiction book for younger readers.
You may have heard about our safety drills at school, and often if one happens during middle school PE, we have those students shelter in place with an elementary class. Great role modeling going ---- in both directions!
And, it’s still my fantasy at some time to have an all-school K-8 Marimba band!
Have a good week.
Jodee
ELEMENTARY VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR’S NOTE
Notes for you to note this week-
- Shawn’s class needs 2 liter plastic bottles for a science project. If you are a fan of the bubble water, Shawn would love to have them. Drop them outside her door, empty please.
- Don’t forget you have an opportunity to preview the social studies curriculum that is looked at being adopted by the district for 4th and 8th grade in our library until this Wed.
- Thanks to those hardy scissor superstar box top clippers who helped me, help Jessie Saunders (thx Jessie) get those tops ready for collection & delivery. Keep saving your box tops & Ballard/Greenwood market receipts & turn them in next to the scrip table. These simple fundraising efforts are helpful & remind us how fun it is to use kid scissors.
- Calling all elementary tour guides. For the next 3 Tuesdays, we will have lots of parents touring through our beloved school. Having current parents available to answer questions outside the classrooms from 9:45 or so to 10:30 is so helpful. Let me know if you can help out any of the next Tuesdays. mcratcliffe@seattleschools.org
- Don’t forget about tonight’s PIE event with Julie Metzger (RN, Children’s Hospital) . Well worth the trip back to school to laugh and learn. Julie is knowledgeable, witty and smart. Thanks to PIE for their organization and their wonderful treats at the end of the night.
- Enrichment fees. If you have not paid your enrichment fee or paid a partial amount earlier in the year, now would be a great time to attend to it. If you need a form, contact me. If you need to know whether you have paid or not, contact me. If you feel like you have paid and your check has yet to clear, please contact me. Remember that scholarships are available, in full or partial amounts. Thanks for your attention to this.
- Lastly, remember it is EARLY RELEASE this Wednesday.
Enjoy your week. Megan

- High School Night! Is This Thursday, March 4th at 7pm! This night is meant for 8th graders and

place.

SEATTLE HIGH SCHOOL TOUR INFORMATION:
In the new assignment plan, high school students can actually choose to go to another school not in their assigned area. Ten percent of seats for each incoming 9th grade class has been set aside for students who are requesting that school even though it isn't in their assigned area. In the school district jargon, this is called "10% open choice". Hence the tours are also for students who want to apply to non-option schools out of their assignment area.
Seattle Public Schools will hold open houses at every high school in the next few weeks. The visits are aimed at helping parents learn more about schools in their attendance area, as well as option schools open to their students under the School District's new student assignment plan. Weeknight open houses will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturday open houses will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, unless otherwise noted in the schedule. For interpretation services, please contact the school three days before the scheduled open house date. Many of the open houses will include a formal presentation, so parents and guardians are encouraged to arrive at the beginning of the event.
Below is a table of the scheduled open house tours. For more information on day time tours, please refer to your student’s assigned school website.
