Hello families! Hope you all had a lovely weekendJ

What we worked on last week (information in the narrow boxes is repeated on a weekly basis)

SAM Field Trip
Thank you to all the folks that volunteered for the SAM field trip. The Calder exhibit was amazing and inspiring. I highly recommend it to everyone! Julie Pearson went to the Re-Store and purchased some electrical wire for the kids to sculpt with (wire was one of Calder’s mediums/ media?)… It has been a lot of fun.

Writers Workshop
We began our realistic fiction unit of study and began coming up with new story ideas.

Word Study
We worked on suffixes, silent e, short vowel sounds, spelling patterns, consonant-y and changing y to i and adding es.

Please remind your child that should they have any, that they need to practice all their “words to learn” each week at home by pointing and saying the letters of the word, then writing each word at least 4 times each.

Math

2nd graders practiced ballpark estimates, measurement, adding multiples of 10, strategies for adding 2-digit numbers, and fact triangles.

Please be sure to have your child continue practicing their fact triangles at home 2-4 times per week. In addition, please remember to have your 2nd grader play the EveryDay Math Online games we’ve learned so far this year for extra practice.

3rd graders worked on multiplication arrays, multiplication and division using equal shares and equal groups, division story diagrams, and remainders.

Snack
Thank you to Hazel’s family for snack the week before break and to Grace’s family last week. Also, a friendly reminder to Martha’s family that it is your snack week this week and next.

Tardiness
A friendly reminder to families to please help your child get to school on time. We have had a number of kids between last week and this week arrive up to 15 minutes late for school unexcused. It is imperative that you help your child develop the responsibility of being on time and prepared for a day at school.
