Hello families! Hope you all had a lovely weekendJ
What we worked on last week
Science
We continued our solids and liquids science unit and discovered which solid objects were magnetic, as well as why certain solid objects floated vs. sank. We also noted what happens when certain solid objects (bean, piece of paper, paperclip, piece of chalk, plastic cube) are put in a cup of water. Thanks again to Dana Black for helping us out during one of our lessonsJ
Word Study
We wrapped up our last word study units which covered antonyms, word patterns, words with ir, er, ur sounds, words ending in tch, homophones and contractions and compound words. We will have an assessment this week. Please remind your child that should they have any, that they need to practice all their “words to learn” each week at home by pointing and saying the letters of the word, then writing each word at least 4 times each.
Math
2nd graders practiced change number stories, making change, coin exchanges and completed the end of unit math assessment. Please be sure to have your child continue practicing their fact triangles at home 3-5 times per week. In addition, please remember to have your 2nd grader play the EveryDay Math Online games we’ve learned so far this year for extra practice.
3rd graders continued working on measurement (US Customary and Metric), for determining perimeter and area.
Please remember to have your 3rd grader practice one to two pages out of last year’s volume 2 second grade math journal, as well as the recent games we’ve learned in class on EveryDay Math Online.
Field Trip
Hey folks, looks like SJ Chiro, Jen Millen, and Jane McGehee will be helping out on Wednesday. If I left anyone out who I said could come, please feel free to show up. We need to leave Salmon Bay at about 9:50.
