ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S NOTE
Middle School
Parents thank you so much for all your help and good spirit during the Middle School Dance, what a success. You were great at mixing up Shirley Temples, handing out Red Vines, roaming the halls, weaving in and out of teenage mobs!!! Thanks.
Climate Assembly
This past week we had a 6th grade Climate assembly where we discussed our 3 guiding principles; Be Kind, Be Safe and Be Responsible. We also talked about progressive discipline, our policy on play fighting and explaining what a referral is. Students were referred to their student planners to read the student handbook portion of the planner for more details. We also talked to the students about how their behavior is connected to whether they are able to go on school outings. We, at Salmon Bay, feel that students earn the right to participate in certain school events. So if a student receives a behavior referral they may jeopardize their opportunity to go on certain fieldtrips. (Rollerskating, Wild Waves, dances, etc.)
The best part of the assembly was recognizing students who “Live Aloha”.
Henry Brackbill, Sarah Rowley, Kendall Foster, Griffin Denke , Elijah Falk, Ryan Olson, Iain Dunn, Timothy Torres, Eirick McGrady, Santiago Crisanto-Cholas, Thomas Star. These were students who in the past few months have been helping out at lunch and cleaning up the outside and inside, and being responsible.
WEP Rental Night November 19
Rental night begins at 5:00. Please note that students may not ‘hang’ out at school until 5:00, we do not have the supervision available for them. Students may attend their regular Thursday, OST, activity if they are registered and then go to Rental Night, but they must already be enrolled in the OST activity.
ELEMENTARY VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR’S NOTE
Short notes for a short week:
LOST AND FOUND: Inch by inch, row by row, our rack of clothes has grown you know. All it takes is a mom to know, whether clothes are wanted or not. Please check the lost and found for items you still want. They will be donated after November 20th, before the Thanksgiving break.
Lost and found is located in the stage area, next to the cafeteria.
Parent Information Exchange: Big thanks to the parent education committee of PIE for hosting Julie Metzger (a community favorite), offering free childcare (thank you COHO Kidstime) and delightful pie (thank you pie makers). Your events are informative and helpful and fun. The cameras were rolling while Julie was presenting so if you missed the event and would like to see the wisdom Julie Metzger professed, contact Patty Maier at p.maier@comcast.net.
DIRECT GIVING CAMPAIGN: Check out the BIG, and we are talking BIG, sign out front indicating our progress with the Direct Giving Campaign. You should have received your letters by now, with your fish wishes.
UPCOMING: Two terrific events to put on your upcoming, oh my goodness November leads to December, calendars. The Fair Trade Fair and Pancake Breakfast on November 21st will give you a chance to eat, greet, meet, buy something neat, which supports Salmon Bay’s involvement in Bridges to Understanding. Drop by on Saturday Nov. 21st for some festivity and fair trade fun. Scrip, Chinook books and our new Salmon Bay sweatshirts & t-shirts will be available too. Then fast forward your calendar to the first weekend in December, which will be our All school Fall Bookfair at the UW bookstore, Dec 4th -7th. Lots of activities planned to enlighten and entertain. Hope to see you at both events.
Enjoy your week and may the significance of Wednesday be with us all.

AUCTION NEWS:
You don’t have to be Martha Stewart . . .
To join the Auction Decorations Team. Come be part of the most festive committee around! Let’s not even call it a committee; let’s just call it a party! If you like to play with scissors, maybe know your way around a glue gun, or even just have some quirky ideas, we need you!!! To get your name on the list, email Elisabeth at elisabeth.fredrickson@gmail.com or Edith Fuchs at eka@nwlink.com.
SALMON BAY WINE AUCTION: Once again this year, we’re providing an easy way for you to help with the auction. We are doing a wine auction that has two components. There will be a section of the silent auction that is comprised of bottles of wine and wine-related items. The wine in this section will be extra special bottles with a value of $40 or more. But, we all know that there are LOTS of great bottles of wine that are in the $10 to $40 range. For these bottles, we will do a “Wine Grab” where you buy a bottle of wine for $15 and then grab a mystery bottle of wine that will be valued anywhere from $10 to $40 or even more!
HOW YOU CAN HELP: Of course we need those “specialty” bottles worth $40 or more. We’d be happy to help you de-clutter your wine cellar! Do you prefer bubbly or port? Those work, too! And here’s the really easy way — Donate your favorite bottle of wine that’s worth between $10 and $40. What’s your favorite bottle that you take to a friend’s house when they have you over for dinner? Questions? Call or e-mail Michelle Chamberlain at 206.782.9173 or mvs@chamberlain.net
Ready to donate? Drop your bottle(s)) off at the Chamberlain’s house: 7023 22nd Ave. NW (very close to school!). If Michelle isn’t there, there will be a wine box on the front porch and a clip board where you can write your information and let her know if you want a donation receipt. She will check the box frequently. Or, Michelle will gladly come to you to pick up your donation. Call or email her for that.
GREAT AUCTION DONATION NEEDS YOUR HELP: Calling all Salmon Bay foodies! Salmon Bay Cooks is compiling a cookbook for the upcoming auction and is looking for your favorite recipes for potluck dishes. Original recipes preferred, if you have a favorite from a book, please include title/author. You can email your recipes to salmonbaycooks@gmail.com or drop them off outside of Carita’s room (106.)
PROCUREMENT FORMS: Hard copy procurement forms should be finding their way to your home via kid mail today or tomorrow. The next contest for turning in your form is listed on the form itself.
Get your donation in to us soon and we will enter your name into a drawing for a NEW Salmon Bay Sweatshirt. Great for gardening in. Not sure what might work? Need a procurement packet (complete with stamped addressed envelope)? Ask Lynne – contact info is below.
Remember, we want to make it easy for you! – Email Lynne@ohana.org with your donation info! Or call: 789-8093 OR – Bring your physical donations into the volunteer coordinator’s office (attach a donor form; there’ll be some there) OR – Donate online: http://www.salmonbayschool.org/parents/fundraising/auction/donor_form OR – Print the form (attached) and fax it into school (252-1721) OR – Bring the form into the main office and put it in the auction mail box.
Thanks all you superheroes! This will be fun!

Chances are, your family will spend money on one of the following this week: groceries, clothing, movie tickets, pizza night, video rentals, sporting goods, fresh wholesome bread, or specialty coffees. Guess what? We carry gift cards for retailers that can be used to meet all of these purchasing needs, while also contributing a percentage of each purchase to support Salmon Bay programs. Listed below are some of the ways you can support the scrip program at Salmon Bay.
