PRINCIPAL’S NOTE

Dear Salmon Bay Families:

You can certainly tell that spring has arrived at Salmon Bay!

  • Our track team took 3rd place in the metro championships
  • Our waters project garden with native plants is sprouting, greener and greener
  • Students are lingering outside at recess and lunch
  • Bicycles are showing up more and more—185 bikes at school on Bike to School Day
  • Placement letters for our 5th graders and new kindergarteners arrived last week.
  • Mr. G. walked around last Thursday with water balloons he SAID were for after school with the track team. Stay tuned.
  • Brian and Nicolette have returned from camp, Sally and Dave have returned from camp, Carita and Dorothy, Shawn and Marian are packing up, and 8th grade camp is next!
  • Our Bridges to Understanding film fest was marked by the first warm spring thunderstorm, echoing outside as we watched the work of student film-makers.
  • Students are setting new records for eating FAST and getting outside. Anthony, Gabriel, Edna and playground teachers have shed their coats!
  • But students are still tucked away in classrooms, corners, library —reading, reading reading! •

The parent garden group has been busy again making our grounds magnificent!

Have a good week.

ELEMENTARY VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR’S NOTE

WOWS!!

  • Wow Max Busch, you won the University Bookstore Bookmark contest with your snazzy artwork. Congratulations & we will continue to look for great things from you now and in the future!!
  • Wow, E-wow, wow.com and WWW. WOW- David Innes, Pam Lauritzen, Tomo Lescher, Elaine Hall, Robin Lofstrom, Linda Illman, Jodee Reed and Jessica Phillips – The new Salmon Bay Website looks terrific. You have made it functional, easy to use, informative and beautiful. Thank you for the many, many, MANY hours it took you to create this and edit this and make this possible. Check it out www.seattleschools.org

WENEEDYA’S!!

  • Our Salmon Bay Family ice cream social, which will welcome the new elementary families and say farewell to those moving on to middle school, will be on Friday June 5th at 7:00 on the lower field playground. We need a few helpers for set up and ice cream distribution. If you help with ice cream distribution, you get early and easy access to the ice cream. Email or call me if you can help.
  • Elementary Field Day is rapidly approaching, Friday June 12th from 8:45-11:45. We need lots of volunteers to help Mr. G make this one of the funnest days of the year complete with popscicles and water opportunities wrapped in small latex circles. Email or call me if you can help.
  • Come help us plan for the budget and business of FOSB for next year, on Saturday June 6th, 9:00-2:00, at the FOSB annual board retreat. You will get early and easy access to ice cream and fun handouts. (We will probably switch out the ice cream for coffee and fruit but for sure the handouts and great company.) Where is it happening you ask?

DIDYOU??

  • Notice that there is a Middle school band concert this Thursday at 7:00 in the stage area.
  • Find any old Salmon Bay sweatshirts that your student no longer likes or fits or chooses to wear, while you were cleaning house this weekend? Drop them off outside of the Volunteer Coordinator’s office for redistribution.
  • Realize that you have not paid your enrichment fee, or the second half of your enrichment fee, now that you are heading off to camp, or just came back, and camp at Salmon Bay is paid for entirely by our enrichment fee. You can make the check out to Salmon Bay School and drop it off with Megan Ratcliffe, or email me if you are wondering your status. Thanks.
  • See you favorite kids’ big toothy grin in this year’s class photo? Well they are here and should be heading home sometime this week.
  • Pick up a copy of the FOSB Annual Report, which was created by Robin Lofstrom, with the help of Lance Adams and Jane Davies, to help you see a bit of what the year in review was like from our parent board. Thanks to the above 3 for creating a fun program for the all school annual meeting last Thursday. A group of about 30 folks were treated to the talents and knowledge of Jane, Lance and Robin. Thank you all for attending, smiling, listening and eating our cake.

Enjoy your 4 day week and have fun at camp. Megan
