Middle School Spring OST - Out of School Time - Activities
Here’s a list of Out of School Time (OST) activities that will be available for middle-schoolers this spring.
- HOMEWORK CLUB: Attention Middle School Students! If you would like some help with your school work, a place to get work done before you go home, help with organization and a place to meet some new friends, join us for homework club! A group of great teachers will help you navigate successfully through your classes and help with research, organization, writing projects, math projects and math homework. Location: Library Instructor: Anthony Malaki, Nancy Gruber Day: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays Dates: 1/5-5/28 Time: 3:15-5:00
- SCHOLARS TABLE: This is a teacher recommended class, an opportunity for students to reflect on and develop Action Plans for their social and academic goals. Students will get help with decision-making and be able to work on Reading skills, reviewing Number Sense; a time to receive personal attention and tutoring to assist with homework. Location: Library Instructor: Gabriel Kidane Day: Tues and Thurs. Dates: 1/6-5/28 Time: 3:15-5:30
- YEARBOOK CLUB: This club is for anyone who would like to join the team who will create the yearbook for 2008-9. Some of the activities that go into compiling the yearbook are photo taking, text writing, and lay out work. NEWCOMERS WELCOME. Location: Rm. 209 Instructor: Joel Maier Day: Tues. Dates: Jan. 6-May 26.
- JAZZ BAND: Jazz Band offers students a chance to learn to play Jazz music in a combination setting. The rhythm section includes bass, drums, guitar, and piano. The melodies are provided by the wind or string instruments. Students will improve their performance abilities by learning to play Jazz standards, the blues, and by learning to improvise melodies. Location: Band Room,1st floor Instructor: Mark Oesterle Day: Monday Dates: 1/5-5/18/08 Time: 3:15-5:00
- MATH OLYMPIAD: The sessions are open to any interested students, regardless of grade level. We will spend time on challenging math problems and concepts, which may supplement or extend beyond normal grade level math curriculum. There will be no homework. If enough students are interested there will be opportunities for competitions which are encouraged but entirely optional. - 6th GRADE MATH: This is a teacher recommended class for 6th graders (you may email Katie V to ask if it’s appropriate (kavirga@seattleschools.org). It is an activity for students who would like to spend more time working on basic math concepts, or get help with their homework, or explore challenge problems. Location: Rm. 211 Instructor: Katie V Day: Tues Dates: 1/6-5/26.
- 8th GRADE PROJECT CLASS: A great opportunity for 8th graders to obtain extra individual help with organizing and accomplishing their chosen projects. Location: Rm314 Instructor: Keith McLaren
Days: Tues. Dates: Jan 6- May 26 Time: 3:15-5:00.
- SHAKESPEARE PRODUCTION CLASS: With teacher guidance students will participate in casting, directing, costuming, set building, and performing. Included also will be time spent learning about the historical and literary aspects of Shakespearean drama. This year there will be two casts for “Two Gentlemen from Verona”. LIMIT 40 (20 per cast) Location: Cafeteria. Instructors: Jan Wilson, Glyde King Days:M, TH Dates: Feb. 2nd to Apr.23rd. Time: 3:15-5:00
